Oral presentation

Around 60 year 1 students and teachers listened to the oral presentations given by year 2 students about their project Connected by Art 2.1 and 2.2. The first part of the exchange was a week in February in Girona whereas the second part was a week in May in Alphen.

The oral presentation of their project took place in la Sala Vermella of Agustí Gifre Primary School in Sant Gregori.

In pairs they talked about relevant aspects such as the passports they wrote to be coupled, a city video, assignments about Gaudi, Dali, Van Gogh, Escher, sports such as golf and surfing, a poster about the Netherlands, both Catalan and Dutch educational systems as well as cultural differences, a trip diary, among others.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday has been a very complete day; sporty and cultural. We spent the day in Den Haag where we ent to the beach and at the city centre. Surfing has been an amusing activity. Putting on our wetsuit was the most difficult part; the rest was easy going! A monitor told us about the origins and tecnique of this sport. Then we were divided into small groups so that we went into the water in order to start practising on the board!

At Escher Museum we have been observing in situ his paintings of perspectives with unimaginable elements, depths in Italian landscapes, metamorphic mosaics and surprising optical illusions. Most of us will bring home Escher's ideas of infinite and eternity by means of a souvenir.

Around half past seven, the canteen in Scala College was full of students who were dancing at the rhythm of the most trendy music by Ruben; the best DJ of the moment!

And our stay in Alphen finished on a Friday which started full of old Dutch games and then we went to the swimming pool. We are filling our trip diary with moments lived together such as saying goodbye to our friends. This experience will be with us forever!

Tuesday and Wednesday

Students at Scala College for a day! On Tuesday we were very lucky and could attend three classes withing the bilingual program of the Dutch school.

The Art session from Miss Peters consisted in designing a tessellation in order to make mosaics inspired by Escher's tessellations. Results have been very creative and authentic. Ms Olieman thought her PE session in 4 areas so that students could practice four different sports; Climbing, hockey, badminton and football. And the EIO session was based on working together withing partners so that they could compare both educational systems in Catalonia and The Netherlands regarding its most relevant aspects.

On Wednesday we woke up very early to go to Amsterdam. At 10am we went into Van Gogh Museum and enjoyed it so much. We could observe some of his masterpieces such as The Sunflowers, The Potato Eaters, among others. We learnt so much about the life and work of such a genius.

Later on, we did a photo tour around the Dutch capital city and the meeting point was the Dam. We have been enjoying the majestic cathedral, the royal palace, we have been walking by the canals and the typical houses in Amsterdam. We have taken advantage of some free time in order to do some shopping.

Monday

And today Monday we began the week pedalling. In Holland students and most teachers get to school by bike. Therefore, the Catalan students have learnt how to break using the pedals; with some falling, too.

Mrs Stolk was teaching English from 9.10 until 10 in room 22 and we worked haikus, we wrote a poem about our Dutch friends. It was Aina's birthday and the "Happy Birthday to you" was a must! The Biology lesson in room 6 was from 10 until 10.50 and Mrs Meerkerk was waiting for us with her desk full of flowers. We studied the meadow foxtail, buttercup, among others. Then, we went to the golf course where the monitor and Mrs Hoekstra, who's a golf player and a host mom, were waiting for us. We learnt how to swing, put, and so on.

Summing up, the day has been wonderful and we have enjoyed a fabulous sunny weather!

Landed!

And finally the anticipated date for our students arrived! Sunday 14th May we start the second part of the exchange with our partners from Scala College in Alphen aan den Rijn. This time it's us from Sant Gregori who travel to the land of windmills, tulips, bikes and the land where Van Gogh was born.

After a lot of patience in the boarding hall at the aiport in Barcelona and last minute unexpected problems at Schiphol Airport, we arrived in Alphen at 4 in the afternoon. The reunion was very emotional; we cannot put it in words.
